Annual Reviews Announces New Chemistry Title
Annual Review of Analytical Chemistry ™ launches in 2008

Palo Alto, CA, USA. January 29, 2008— Annual Reviews has announced plans to publish the Annual Review of Analytical Chemistry (http://anchem.annualreviews.org) in 2008.  The series will be co-edited by Dr. Edward S. Yeung and Dr. Richard N. Zare.

Annual Review of Analytical Chemistry will provide a perspective on the field of analytical chemistry. It will provide an innovative perspective that will address measurement science in general, with a focus on concepts, materials, chemicals, and/or processes. The series will draw from disciplines as diverse as biology, physics, and engineering, with analytical chemistry as the unifying theme.

Some topics reviewed in the first volume include atmospheric analysis, atomic force microscopy, CARS imaging, electrochemistry on the nanoscale, nanoparticle sensors, on-chip multiplexing analysis, planetary and interstellar chemistry, nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry, microfluidics, biosensors, and chromatography. This journal is ideal for readers with a general background in the natural sciences as well as a broad range of scientists interested in physical, chemical, and biological measurements.

"Experimental measurements form the basis of all of the natural sciences. By providing in-depth and timely perspectives on the fundamental, technological and applied aspects of analytical chemistry, we hope to stimulate interaction and collaboration among scientists in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, materials, medicine and environment. Not only can applications of novel measurement concepts be accelerated, but challenges and limitations of current measurement protocols will also receive prompt attention. Such interdisciplinary discourse is essential to solving global problems such as climate change, energy and health," said Dr. Yeung, Co-Editor of the Annual Review of Analytical Chemistry

Dr. Yeung is the Program Director and Distinguished Professor in Liberal Arts and Sciences in the Department of Chemistry at Iowa State University. His research interests span both spectroscopy and chromatography. He has published in areas such as nonlinear spectroscopy, laser-based detectors for liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, trace gas monitoring, single-cell and single-molecule analysis, DNA sequencing, and data treatment procedures in chemical measurements. A Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, he is the recipient of numerous honors and awards in the field.

“For critical, in-depth reviews of the rapidly developing fields that comprise modern analytical chemistry, with guidance about what remains to be accomplished, I contend that there is no better place to look than here,”  said Co-Editor Dr. Richard N. Zare. Dr. Zare is the Marguerite Blake Wilbur Professor in Natural Science at Stanford University. He is renowned for his research in the area of laser chemistry, resulting in a greater understanding of chemical reactions at the molecular level. By experimental and theoretical studies he has made seminal contributions to our knowledge of molecular collision processes and contributed very significantly to solving a variety of problems in chemical analysis. His development of laser induced fluorescence as a method for studying reaction dynamics has been widely adopted in other laboratories. The recipient of the National Medal of Science and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, he is the recipient of numerous honors and awards in the field and across science.

The editorial and planning committee for the Annual Review of Analytical Chemistry includes:

Co-Editors
Edward S. Yeung, Iowa State University
Richard N. Zare. Stanford University
